Hello fellow bloggers and students. Sorry I have not been able to blog in a while but better late than ever. So for this week in my proposal essay writing process, my English professor asked the class to write annotated bibliographies on the sources we desire to incorporate in our essays. We are also required to cite these sources and attach them with each bibliography. So here is my list of five sources.
McMinn, Mark R., et al. "Just What Is Christian Counseling Anyway?." Professional Psychology: Research And Practice 41.5 (2010): 391-397. PsycARTICLES. Web. 1 Apr. 2014.
This article is a credible source for my research because author, Dr. Mark McMinn has valid background and research for what he has written. Dr. Mark McMinn’s credentials include his undergraduate degree from Lewis and Clark College and a PhD in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University. He then taught at George Fox from 1984 to 1993 to then be part of the integration of psychology and Christianity. Afterwards he returned to George Fox in 2006 and serves as a Professor and Director of Faith Integration in the Graduate Department of Clinical Psychology where is currently working. He is also a psychologist. Date-wise this publication is important to include because it was published in 2010 giving it modern and refreshed. The author’s main goal in this article is to inform about all different kinds of biblical counseling approaches such as pastoral counseling, biblical counseling, and Christian psychology. The publishing source for this article generally targets an audience of professional psychologist or student researchers that are seeking all different kinds of counseling approaches. This audience would be interested in this subject because it provides a variety of counseling approaches and would generally both disagree or disagree with this author’s perspective on the topic because they may agree with one or more approaches and disagree with the others. The author incorporates the following types of evidence: other scholarly journals, books form other scholars, and articles published in American Psychologist. This evidence builds credibility because it stores a lot of information pertaining Christian counseling but is also limited because it does not have any views of a secular perspective. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I agree with this author because he emphasizes that counseling is diverse. I think this article is important to include in my essay because with all the different perspectives of counseling he provides, I am able to have a bigger audience and more data on my subject.
Farnhan, Mark. "Question and Answer." Personal interview. 4 Apr. 2014
Mr. Farnham is a credible source for my research because of his past education. His credentials include a P.H.D. (CAND.) from West Mister Theological Seminary, his ThM in Gorden-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a MD iv in Calvary Baptist Seminary. Mr. Farnham is also a professor here in Lancaster Bible College. Date-wise it is important to include Mr. Farnham’s input because he is a current theology teacher here and this way, I have a different perspective other than just of a counselor. This interview’s main goal in this article is to respond to the questions I asked such as “is the bible the only thing needed to incorporate in all counseling. The publishing source for this article generally targets an audience that fits the following description: theologians and college students. This audience would be interested in this subject because it would give them an insight to what their professors think and would generally agree with this professor’s perspective on the topic. The author incorporates the following types of evidence: personal experience and past research on the topic. This evidence builds credibility because personal experience allows the audience to actually relate but is also limited because personal experience cannot be proved by anyone but him. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I agree with this professor because he was open to different types of counseling methods. I think this interview is important to include in my essay because it will allow me to incorporate the perspectives of a professor of theology.
Tripp, Paul David. "Do We Really Need Help?" Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands: People in Need of Change Helping People in Need of Change. Phillipsburg, NJ: P&R Pub., 2002. 37-56. Print.
This article is a credible source for my research because of his past experiences and education. The author’s credentials include a master’s degree in Bible and Christian Education in Columbia Bible College which is now called Columbia International University. He also received his Master of Divinity from the Reformed Episcopal Seminary now called Philadelphia Theological Seminary and his D. Min in Biblical Counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary. Date-wise this publication is important to include because it was published in 2002 giving it a modern view. The author’s main goal in this article is to teach leaders and counselors to be good advisors with the help of the Lord . The publishing source for this article generally targets an audience that fits the following description: leaders such as pastors, RAs, camp counselors, and student counselors. This audience would be interested in this subject because Tripp shows them examples and techniques to help them be a better counselor and would generally agree with this author’s perspective on the topic. The author incorporates the following types of evidence: his education and personal insight. This evidence builds credibility because Tripp has past experiences on this topic of counseling but is also limited because not everyone may agree to his sometimes extreme view and close mindedness. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I agree with this author because he gives insight on how to go about being a counselor and when it is necessary to apply it. I think this article is important to include in my essay because share information on to where a person may actually need counseling.
Garzon, Fernando, and Kimberely A. Tilley. "Do Lay Christian Counseling Approaches Work? What We Currently Know." Journal Of Psychology & Christianity 28.2 (2009): 130-140. Academic Search Premier. Web. 4 Apr. 2014.
This article is a credible source for my research because of his many positions and for counseling experiences. The author, Fernando Garzon's credentials include being a professor at Liberty University for counseling and Family Studies, a licensed psychologist, and the Chair of Liberty's Institutional Review board. His clinical experience include outpatient practice, managed care, hospital and church settings. Date-wise this publication is important to include because it was published in 2009 allowing him to have past research done and a modern view on his topic. The author’s main goal in this article is to persuade about the lay or unprofessional approach of counseling being able to function as a form of counseling others. The publishing source for this article generally targets an audience that fits the following description: counselors that do not wish to exceed or start an education, counselor students who are exploring all there possibilities. This audience would be interested in this subject because it provides them different perspectives on something other than accredited counseling and they would generally agree and disagree with this author’s perspective on the topic. The author incorporates the following types of evidence: past experience, professor knowledge, and different perspectives on different types of counseling approaches. This evidence builds credibility because he is able to have experience a variety of counseling settings but is also limited because he focuses on a certain view which is lay counseling. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I disagree with this author because I believe all counselors should be trained and educated in order to affectively help a client heal through a variety of life situations. I think this article is important to include in my essay in order to have a different perspective on what I believe is true.
Bonthius, Robert H. "What Is Christian Counseling." Journal Of Pastoral Care 13.2 (1959): 69-78. ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials. Web. 4 Apr. 2014.

The author incorporates the following types of evidence: professor, past counseling experiences, and researched information. This evidence builds credibility because he was able to have a lifetime of vast experiences and research but is also limited because it is historical and not as credible today because of new things discovered and researched. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I disagree with this author because I believe all counseling should be Biblically based as all other approaches ultimately lead to self reliance and sin. I think this article is important to include in my essay because it will allow me to expand my beliefs.
